Files and Folders (Digital Assets)
These are the files and folder the file manager is currently storing.

Menu bar / Main Task Bar
The Menu Bar (top of screen) and the Main Task Bar (bottom of the screen) are the toolbars that allow you to manage the File Manager’s files and folders.

Main Taskbar
Download
# To Download a file, select the file by clicking the check box at the left of the file name and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Download”.
# This will then prompt the “Save to disk” dialogue window to open.
# Click OK and the file will be saved to your specified download location, usually your desktop.

Upload
To Upload a file, click the button in the main taskbar marked “Upload”.
When the upload window opens you will be presented with two upload options.

The default tab is “Upload”
This upload function allows you to upload up to 10 files in one go and add an individual description against each file.
# To add a file to the upload list you must click the “Browse” button. This will then display the dialogue window, allowing you to choose your file.
# When your file has been selected, click “open” and the file will be added to the upload list.
#* You can then add a short description against each file by using the Description field.
# You can then click the “Upload files(s)” button at the bottom of the upload window.

This will then upload the files into the File Manager. If you are uploading particularly large files, an upload progress bar will be displayed and will indicate the current status of the upload.

When the upload is complete, the Upload window will automatically close and the newly uploaded files will be added to the list of available files already in your File Manager.

The second upload option is “Flash Upload”
When in the "Flash Upload" mode you can select multiple files, or the contents of whole folders and upload them into the File Manager.
# To add files to the upload list you must click the “Browse” button.
# This will then display the dialogue window, allowing you to choose your files.
#* To select multiple files hold down the CTRL key and then select each file in turn.
#* Alternatively, to select the contents of entire folders hold down the CTRL key and the “A” key (CTRL + A).
# When all your files have been selected, click “open” and the files will be added to the upload list.
# You can then click the “Upload” button at the bottom of the upload window.

This will then upload the files into the File Manager. If you are uploading particularly large files, an upload progress bar will be displayed and will indicate the current status of the upload.

Zip
The Zip function is designed to allow you to download the contents of whole folders or multiple files to your desktop, which is not possible via the conventional “Download” function.
# To Create a Zip file, select the file or folders your require by clicking the check box at the left of the file names and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Zip”.
# You will then be prompted to enter a Zip file name.
# After entering a new Zip file name and clicking OK, the Zip file will be created and the “Save to disk” dialogue window to open. Click OK and the zip file will be saved to your specified download location, usually your desktop.

Pack
The Pack function is designed to be an archiving tool, allowing you to compress multiple files and folders directly on the server. It also allows you to Save and download the compressed archives to your desktop in a similar way to the Zip function.
# To Create a Packed file (or .tar.gz file), select the file or folders your require by clicking the check box at the left of the file names and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Pack”.
# This will then open a smaller window which shows the intended “Archive” file name. This name will be generated from all the names of the files you are archiving, plus the file extension .tar.gz.
#* For simplicity, you can edit this file name to something more suitable, E.g “SiteBackup 15.8.06.tar.gz”.
# When you have decided on the archive file name you can then click “OK” and the archive file will then be created. The newly created Archive file will be denoted by a yellow “Pack” icon.

Unpack
The Unpack function is designed to be a tool to unpack archived .tar.gz files.
# To unpack a Packed file (or .tar.gz file), select the file by clicking the check box at the left of the file name and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Unpack”.
# This will then open a smaller window which shows the path to the folder where the Archived files will be unpacked into. You can change this path by entering the name of an existing alternative folder.
# When you have specified the “unpack” location and clicked OK, the archived file will then be unpacked.

Chmod
The chmod function (abbreviated from change mode), allows users running the file manager on a Linux server to change the file system modes of files and directories by entering a numeric three and four-digit octal number to represent different permission settings. This function is commonly used for setting the read / write and execute permissions for perl and cgi scripts.
# To set the chmod permissions of a file or folder, select the file of folder by clicking the check box at the left of the file name and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Chmod”.
# This will then open a smaller window which shows the current read / write and execute permissions for the file or folder.
# Using the radio buttons or by directly entering a numeric permission code, you can then set the permissions for that file or folder. To confirm and to apply these permissions click the “chmod” button.

Preview
The Preview function allows users to quickly and easily preview files live on the server without the need for downloading.
# To preview a file, select the file by clicking the check box at the left of the file name and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Preview”.
#* Alternatively, you can preview the file by clicking on the file name or the file icon.

Hotlink
The Hotlink function allows users to generate a url permitting direct linking to a file without the need for a username and password. This function can be used to add a URL to an eBay auction listing, weblog, forum message post, etc.
# To hotlink a file, select the file by clicking the check box at the left of the file name and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Hotlink”.
# This will then open a smaller window which shows the newly generated hotlink url.
#* There is then the option to copy the URL by clicking “Select All” or generate a new email message with the hotlink url, pre-inserted by clicking the “Email Hotlink” button.
#* Alternatively you can click the “->” button to view the hotlinked file in a new browser window.

Notes
The Notes function allows users to add multiple notes or comments to any file and folder. This function is the ideal tool to share and communicate your ideas quickly between other users, in relation to documents uploaded.
# To add a note to a file, select the file by clicking the check box at the left of the file name and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Notes”.
# This will then open a window which allows you to enter comments or a description relating to the selected file.
#* If a note has already been posted for that file you can respond below the previous users comments.

Copy
# To Copy a file or multiple files, select the files you require by clicking the check box at the left of the file names and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Copy”.
# This will then open a smaller window which shows all available folders to copy the selected files into.
# When you have selected a folder and clicked OK the file or files will then be copied into that directory.

Rename
# To Rename a file, select the file you would like to rename by clicking the check box at the left of the file name and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Rename”.
# This will then open a smaller window which shows the current file name. Simply delete this existing file name and rename with the new file name ensuring you keep the existing file extension e.g. (.gif), before then clicking OK to save your changes.

Editor
The Editor function is a built in WYSIWYG HTML editor enabling you to easily view and edit HTML files and make code adjustments.
* Manage documents similar to Word. Bold, Italicize and change the color of your text.
* Create numbered and bulleted lists.
* Insert images, create tables, and link text.
* Easily and quickly create tables, and customize them the way you want!

The following article is based on the information contained within , which contains additional documentation on the FileManager.

Logging in
Authorized users can quickly and easily access documents via iDC File Manager 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from anywhere in the world via either a Mac or PC running an Internet Browser with JavaScript enabled.

To access File Manager the user must first enter the File Manager URL into the browsers address bar. (The URL will be indicated in the e-mail our help desk will send you.)

When the File Manager has loaded users will initially be greeted by a Login Screen.

Login Screen
The Login screen has 3 taskbar icons:
* Login - Check Mark icon
* Client Manager - Hammer & Wrench Crossed icon
* About - Question Mark icon

Clicking the Login icon will display the login window.

Here you will be prompted to enter your Username and Password and select the language they would like the File Manager interface to be displayed in. These login details will have been generated by the File Manager system administrator prior to the user attempting to login.
* If you enter an incorrect username and password they will not be permitted access to the Main File Manager interface. Instead they will be remain on the login page and will be shown the error message “Error: Account Not Yet Activated Or Incorrect Username And Password Entered!” and asked to try again.
* When a user successfully logs in, they will be automatically directed to the Main File Manager Interface screen.
* The additional icons on the Login page allow the Administrator to access iDC Client Manager via the Client Manager icon and the About icon opens a pop-up window which provides information about the registered License holder and the version of the File Manager.

Main Interface
The FileManager has been designed to have a simple, user friendly interface with straightforward intuitive controls.

Search Box
*Located in the upper-left-hand part of the window. Quickly locate important files or folders with the built in Search facility. Search by either: Exact phrase, All the words, Any words, Perfect field match, Case Sensitive, File format.

Sort Filter
* Sort File Name / Extension / Size or Date in to ascending or descending order.
To use:
* There are several column headings marked "Name", "Ext", "Size", "Description", "Date" and "Attr".
* Click on the column heading that you wish to sort by.
* First click is descending order, next click on the same column changes to ascending order, as indicated by the small arrow in that column heading.

Transfer Mode
* Set the Transfer Mode to Auto to detect the required transfer mode or set it to Text to transfer files in ASCII format.
* Alternatively, set the transfer mode the Binary to transfer the files in Binary format.

# To Create a Zip file, select the file or folders your require by clicking the check box at the left of the file names and then click the button in the main taskbar marked “Zip”.

# Using the radio buttons or by directly entering a numeric permission code, you can then set the permissions for that file or folder. To confirm and to apply these permissions click the “chmod” button.

*To use: Enter your search term, and click "Go".

Using the Web Directory Access Control tool
The Web Directory Access Control tool is a powerful, yet easy to use, method of password protecting a web page.

Instructions are available at here, at the Web Directory Access Control tool page.

Using .htaccess
This method is somewhat more complicated.
Password protected web pages
Modern web browsers have the ability to perform password authentication. These passwords are independent of system passwords. To set up password protected web pages, follow these steps.

1) Create a new directory under your public_html directory which will store the protected pages.
2) Create a file in that directory called .htaccess with the following contents (password dialogue is the text which will appear to the browser in the password dialogue window, and login-name is your SWCP login)

AuthUserFile /users/login-name/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /users/login-name/.htgroup
AuthName "password dialogue"
AuthType Basic
<Limit GET>
require group my-users
</Limit>

If your website is on our older web server (kumo) please remove the quotes from the AuthName argument.

3) Create a file in your home directory called .htgroup with the contents

my-users: pumpkin peanuts almonds walnuts

These are the users who are allowed to access. They will also need to have passwords defined in .htpasswd. To create this file and add the first username use the following UNIX command:

htpasswd -c /users/login-name/.htpasswd username

After running the htpasswd command, you will be prompted for the users password twice. This will create a file /users/login-name/.htpasswd containing a encrypted form of the password. The -c option to the htpasswd command creates the password file so after adding the initial username use the following Unix command to add additional usernames:

htpasswd /users/login-name/.htpasswd username

4) Finally, all 3 files have to be world readable (chmod a+r). Now, when any files in password protected directory are accessed, the browser will get a password required dialogue.

chmod a+r /users/login-name/.htpasswd
chmod a+r /users/login-name/.htgroup
chmod a+r /users/login-name/public_html/somedir/.htaccess

While very useful, there are a couple of drawbacks to this htpasswd mechanism. Users and their passwords have to be created using the command line utility, and then manually entered into .htgroup. Also, each time you run the htpasswd utility, it sets the mode of the file .htpasswd back to 600. So it will have to manually changed back to mode 644 (chmod a+r). Users who want to automate this procedure via CGI should keep these things in mind for their scripting.
You can access it through our Member Tools page, (then click on Website Access Control in the lower right-hand portion of the screen).

There are instructional screencasts available at http://www.swcp.com/content/view/126/9/.

There are also instructions on the main page of the Web Directory Access Control tool itself.:

Introduction
Using this application, you will be able to restrict access to your SWCP website(s) to users of your choice. Here you will have control of the names and passwords that are used to gain access. You may apply access control to your entire web space, or you may limit access control to one or more subdirectories. Giving certain users access to one subdirectory while giving another set of users access to another directory is made simple by putting users into groups, then applying one or more groups to a directory.

The links in the Web Directory Access Control tool are ordered by the sequence you need to follow in order to accomplish this.

Your Users:
Create one or more users
Go to the Users page by following the Your Users link on the Web Directory Access Control tool page.

Click the 'Add new user' button on that page to enter the new login name and the password for a person you want to allow to access your web pages. You may create as many users as you like, provided that the names are all different.

Any users that you have defined already will be displayed in the table, and available for selection in the drop-down list. Select one of the usernames on the drop-down list, and you will be able to

* rename the user
* change the user's password
* delete the user

As soon as you have created at least one user, you will be able to make use of the Groups page and the Directories page.

Your Groups:
Create one or more groups (optional)

Go to the Groups page by following the Your Groups link on the Web Directory Access Control tool page.

Click the 'Add new group' button on that page to enter the new group name, and to choose which users will be members of that group. You may create as many groups as you like, provided that the names are all different. A group may have any or as many members as you have defined users, even only a single user if you wish.

Any groups that you have defined already will be displayed in the table, and available for selection in the drop-down list. Select one of the group names on the drop-down list, and you will be able to

* rename the group
* change membership in the group
* delete the group

As soon as you have created at least one group, you will be able to make use of the groups feature on the Directories page.

Your Directories:
Apply access control to a directory

Go to the Directories page by following the Your Directories link on the Web Directory Access Control tool page.

Wait a few moments, and all of the subdirectories in your webspace (everything under your public_html directory) will be displayed in the form of a folder tree on the left-hand side of your browser window.

Choose the directory that interests you by clicking its name in the tree; a form for access control settings will then be displayed on the right-hand side of the window. Any access control settings that are currently in place on that directory will be shown and changeable.

You may assign access to individual users, and/or to any groups that you have created. If you check the checkbox next to "Grant access to all of your defined users", all users you have defined will be able to log in to see web pages in the selected directory after you click Submit. The Groups and Users boxes will become invisible while this option is chosen.

Configuring the Actiontec 1520 (the white model) to use NAT
Question or Symptom
I just received my Actiontec Wireless-Ready DSL Gateway, and I need to set it up and configure it.

Resolution
Currently, this article covers only the most basic user configuration. By this I mean that they do not have a static IP, they are using NAT, and they are connecting to the gateway by ethernet. As we become more familiar with this new equipment, more complex configurations will be covered.

The box the gateway comes in contains severl color coded bags, each containing different equipment. It also contains detailed instructions for physically connecting the gateway to your computers, and a CD which provides the Installation Buddy software. (Feel free to snicker at that name, but it is actually helpful).

It is probably best if you do not open the individual bags until you have read the instructions. The first set of instructions is a small pamphlet with a black stripe on the top, labeled "Quick Start Guide (DSL Gateway)". These are the instructions for physically setting up the gateway.

At the end of this pamphlet, you are instructed to get the colored bag, yellow (if you are connecting with Ethernet or purple (if you are connecting with USB). Right now, this document only covers connecting by Ethernet. If you have an Ethernet card installed in your computer already, proceed to opening the yellow bag. If you do not, the green bag contains an ethernet card and instructions for installing it.

The instructions in the yellow pamphlet are good up until heading 3, "Configuring the DSL Gateway." The instructions in heading 3 are not bad, the problem is that steps have been left out. You must configure your computer to have an IP address in the same range as the IP address of the gateway. This information is left out in the pamphlet. The pamphlet also does not state what the default IP of the gateway is.

The default IP of the gateway is 192.168.0.1, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The easiest way to configure your computer to have an appropriate IP address and subnet mask is to use DHCP. Configure your operating system to use DHCP (might be refered to as obtaining an IP address dynamically). Depending on your operating system, you might have to reboot after making this change. That procedure is outside the scope of this document.

You can also configure the IP and subnet mask of your computer statically. That procedure is outside the scope of this document.

At this point, if you are not using Windows as your operating system, skip to
the section labeled, Non-Windows Instructions.

Windows Specific Instructions
-----------------------------
# Once your Windows computer is configured with an appropriate IP address, insert the CD that comes with the gateway. The "Installation Buddy" software will start, and install an icon on your desktop titled "Run DSL Setup". This is where heading 3 in the yellow pamphlet picks up. If you have done the above correctly, you will get the congratulations screen shown under heading 3, in step 1. Click NEXT.
# Under "Please select ISP protocol", choose PPPoa. Click NEXT.
# In step 3, input your SWCP username and password. Click NEXT.
# In step 4, choose "Dynamic IP (DHCP). Note: This has nothing to do with whether your computer is using DHCP. Click NEXT.
# In step 5, simply click NEXT, because this is being assigned dynamically.
# In step 6, click FINISH.

Non-Windows Instructions
------------------------

# Fire up a web browser, and point it to http://192.168.0.1, which is the address of the gateway. You will get the main menu for the web interface to the gateway. Click "Setup/Configuration".
# On the left there is a sidebar with the heading "Basic Setup." Click "Non-Windows Setup".
# The first section of this page is headed "ISP Protocol". Choose PPPoA and input your SWCP username and password.
# The next section is headed "IP Configuration." Click "Dynamic."
# The next section is headed "DNS Configuration." Click "Dynamic."
# Click the button "Save and Restart." You are now done.

Question or Symptom
You want a Qwest DSL line and you're in range of a Qwest DSL DSLAM but you don't have a Qwest telephone line.

Resolution
You can order Qwest DSL's "Stand-Alone" service. This is a DSL product that does not require the customer to have dial-tone on their Qwest DSL line. Essentially, it is the same RADSL product as their regular DSL, but without voice telephone service. Qwest charges a small additional monthly charge above their other DSL pricing for this service.

Call Qwest DSL "Safe Harbor" Number (for residential lines: 1-800-348-1688; for commercial lines: 1-800-603-6000)

Then tell the operator you speak with that you wish to order stand alone DSL. You will need the following information:
* Address where service is desired.
* Name of the owner of the DSL service.
* SSN of the owner.

Specify that you want to have Southwest Cyberport as the ISP for this service; otherwise, Qwest will try to set you up with MSN. If the Qwest Rep tells you that you cannot have Southwest Cyberport as your ISP, please either ask for a supervisor, or call Southwest Cyberport at (505)232-7992, and ask for assistance placing this order.

At the end of the call you will be given a "phone number". This number is simply to identify the particular copper line used to provide you the circuit, not an actual telephone line. Please call SWCP (505-232-7992) with this information, or send this information to dsl@swcp.com so we can prepare for your incoming order.
