==Seed Loads==
A "Seed Load" lets you back up your files to a USB hard drive, then send us the drive to load the data on the server. We send you a USB hard drive, you do the initial backup to the drive, then send it back to us. This is recommended for getting started if your backup set is larger than 10-15 GB.

* One FREE seed load offered per account (not including shipping charges, if applicable).
* $35 each for additional seed loads, plus shipping.
* Shipping waived if customer picks up/drops off disk or computer.
* Customer will be charged $150 for the hard drive if it is not returned within 2 weeks.
* Customer may bring computer to SWCP's office and we will perform the seed load here. Turnaround time: 24 hours.

==Seed Restore==

* Just like a seed load, but in reverse. If your computer fails and your backup set is very large, we can copy your files to a hard drive and mail it to you.
* One FREE seed restore per account (not including shipping charges, if applicable).
* Pricing and conditions same as above for seed loads.

The best way to configure Outlook on Windows 10 is through the Control Panel. The following is for Outlook 2019 (aka Outlook 365) and other versions should be similar.

# In Outlook, go to File => Info => In the Account Settings pulldown menu select "Manage Profiles", '''OR'''
# In Windows 10, click on the Start menu and type “Control” to find the Control Panel App, and click on it from the search results
# Search for "mail" in the Control Panel search box in the upper right corner. Click on Mail (Microsoft Outlook...).
# Click the "Email Accounts..." button then click "New"
# On the "Add Account" screen, select "Manual setup or additional server types" and then press "Next"
# Click the "POP or IMAP" button, then click "Next"
# On the "Add Account" screen, fill in these items:
#* Your Name (e.g. Jane Public)
#* Email Address - If you have your own domain, use that address here, otherwise your username@swcp.com email address.
#* Set Account Type to "IMAP"
#* Incoming Mail Server: mail.swcp.com
#* Outgoing Mail Server: mail.swcp.com
#* User Name: Your SWCP username
#* Password: your SWCP mailbox password
#* Make sure the “Require login using Secure Password…” box is '''NOT CHECKED'''
#* Click the "More Settings" button, then the "Outgoing Server" tab
#* Click the “My outgoing server requires authentication” box
#* Click the “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” button (it should already be selected).
#* Click the Advanced tab
#* Under "Incoming Server", set "Use the following type of encrypted connection" to "SSL/TLS" and set the port number to 993
#* Under "Outgoing Server", set "Use the following type of encrypted connection" to "SSL/TLS" and set the port number to 465. (Double-check that the port number stays at 465 before hitting OK … sometimes it will change).
#* Click "OK", then "Next"
#* It should do a test, which will hopefully be successful. Then click "Close" on the test window and "Finish" on the "Add Account" window.

Now you can start Outlook and use this account!

===SWCP Fees===
Sign-up fees are $20. Domain Name registration is available for a $20 initial fee, with a $20 per year renewal fee. Customer may request shell access for PPP/Circuit(DSL/Frame Relay)/Web Hosting/Remote Access accounts.

Users are given 50 megabytes (MB) of permanent disk space for storage of personal files. Additional disk space may be purchased for $0.20 per MB per month (lower rates for larger quantities are available). Temporary storage is available for short-term needs at no extra charge.

A single household or business may purchase secondary accounts for $5 each per month plus connect time charges. All connect time for an account group is billed to the primary account at the same rate, based on their chosen Pricing Plan. The monthly minimum refers to the sum of all usage by the account group. Each secondary account has its own shell login, email address, and 20 MB of storage space. Additional POP/IMAP-only email boxes with no shell login are available for $2.50 per month. Customers may have email aliases created for free.

Customers may receive discounts by paying in advance: 5% for 6 months and 10% for 1 year. If the customer uses more than their allotment during a given month, the pre-paid funds will be used to cover the difference. Thus, the pre-paid deposit may be used up before the stated pre-payment period ends. In this case, the customer will be invoiced at the appropriate time. If a customer's account is terminated by SWCP or the customer, the unused portion of the pre-paid fees (starting at the end of the month of termination) will be returned.

Pricing for other services, such as dedicated line service or large group rates, are available on request.

===General Policies===
* '''Technical Support''': SWCP will provide technical support, as it pertains to SWCP's system or the Internet in general, via telephone, in our office, or via e-mail. If an on-site visit or if unusually large amounts of support are required, as solely determined by SWCP, those additional services may be purchased at SWCP's regular consulting rate. All phone calls to and from SWCP are recorded for training purposes.

* '''Passwords''': User passwords should be chosen with care. A good password is one which is not the name of any person or thing and does not appear in any dictionary. Intermixing upper and lower case letters and numbers, concatenating two nonsense words, or creating an acronym from a silly phrase are all good ways to pick a password. Some examples of good passwords are "akld8s3", "FLaiCy8", "brubmowt", or "chlfts". Some bad passwords are "password", "mustang", "SANDIA", "billy", or "spaceman". SWCP ''may'' periodically run a password checking program which will notify you if your password is too easy to guess, but if a computer "cracker" gains access to your account by guessing your password you will be responsible for the charges he or she accumulates and any damage done. It is a good idea to change your password every 3 to 6 months.

* '''Other Networks''': Remember that the Internet is not one homogeneous network but rather a loosely connected collection of networks all over the world. Each network has its own set of policies and conditions governing its use. You should make yourself familiar with the policies of any network whose resources you're using.

* '''Spam''': SWCP prohibits the use of unsolicited commercial email, commonly known as "spam", when mailed through SWCP's servers, or when used from any server to advertise a website or other service located on our servers. This also includes inappropriate commercial postings to the Usenet news network.

* '''Login Names''': Your login name, also called a user name or email name, is the name that you use to identify yourself when you access SWCP's computer system. This name is also incorporated into your email address. Common user names that many people use are their first name, or last name, or first initial and last name, or 3 initials, or a nickname. Some examples are "costlow", "mcostlow", "mark", and "mec". The only restriction is that the name must be less than 16 characters and it must be unique on our system. The account request form allows you to choose your own name; if there is some reason that we cannot grant your chosen name, we will contact you so that you can choose another one. Note that although your login name is used as your email address (e.g. costlow@swcp.com), when you send electronic mail your real name will also appear in the message.

* '''Aliases''': If you have registered a Domain Name with us, you can have aliases within that domain that forward to your SWCP login name. For example: if you own costlow.org as a domain and your logname is mcostlow, you could setup an email address mike@costlow.org that forwarded to the mcostlow email box. You can manage these yourself from the Members Control Panel.

* '''Account Groups''': A single business or household which purchases an account (the primary account) may purchase extra accounts (secondary accounts) for a nominal monthly fee. All secondary account users must return a signed User Contract in addition to the one returned by the primary account user and are also responsible for complying with all SWCP Policies. Connect time for an account group is billed to the primary account; the primary account user is responsible for all connect time incurred by all accounts in the group. Invoices state the amount of connect time used by each account. All accounts in the group must be billed according to a single Pricing Plan. The monthly minimum time commitment is applied to the sum of all connect time for all accounts in the account group.

__NOTOC__
More and more networks around the world are placing restrictions on who can send email through their services, and how they may do it. Sadly, this is a necessary step in the ongoing battle against spammers. Many of our customers need to send mail through the SWCP mail servers while using non-SWCP network connections (at a hotel, in a coffee shop, on a Comcast connection, etc.) The way to do that is using Authenticated SMTP.

Authenticated SMTP is a method for your email software to tell our mail server who you are, using your username and password. It is supported by all modern email software and is easy to set up. If you have had your email rejected for any of the following reasons, this will usually fix the problem:
* PBL rejection
* SPF rejection
* Port 25 blocked

The basic idea is to set your email program to send with the following configuration:
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP server): mail.swcp.com
* Port and/or protocol: Port 465 with SSL, or port 587 with TLS
* Username and password: the same as you use to retreive your email from SWCP

==Step-by-Step setup for different Mail Clients==
===Thunderbird===
# Go to the Tools menu (or on Linux, the Edit menu) and select Account Settings. (Note: if you do not see "Tools" tap your ALT key and it will appear in the top of your window)
# In the Account Settings window, click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)"
# Select the server 'mail.swcp.com' and click the 'Edit' button

* PBL rejection
* SPF rejection
* Port 25 blocked

The basic idea is to set your email program to send with the following configuration:
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP server): mail.swcp.com
* Port and/or protocol: Port 465 with SSL, or port 587 with TLS
* Username and password: the same as you use to retreive your email from SWCP

==Step-by-Step setup for different Mail Clients==
===Thunderbird===
# In the 'Authentication method' pulldown menu, select 'Normal Password'.
# In the 'Connection Security' pulldown menu, select 'SSL/TLS'
# At this point, the "Port" setting should have changed to read 465.
# Click OK, then OK again to exit Account Settings.

===Outlook===
# Go the Account Settings menu:
#*(Outlook 2003) Go to Tools, then Email Accounts. Select 'View or Change Existing Accounts' and click the 'Next' button
#*(Outlook 2007) Go to Tools, then Account Settings
#*(Outlook 2010 and 2013) Go to the File tab, then the Info menu. In the Info menu, click 'Account Settings'
#*(Outlook 2016/Office 365), Go to File tab => Info menu => Click on Account Settings and then "Manage Profiles" from the pulldown menu
# Select the account to modify, click Change (not the 'Change Folder' button)
# Make sure "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is turned '''OFF''' (Yes, this is confusing ... "SPA" is used only with certain Windows networks, not with Internet Email).
# Click the 'More Settings' button
# Select the Outgoing Server tab
# Turn ON "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
# Select the "Log on using..." option, and enter the username and password again, or select 'Use same settings as incoming'
# Select the Advanced tab
# Enable SSL for incoming and outgoing:
#* Beneath the incoming and outgoing ports, tick the checkbox next to 'This server requires an encrypted/secure connection (SSL)'.
#* If incoming or outgoing has a 'Use the following type of encrypted connection' option instead of the above, select 'SSL' from the pulldown next to it.
# Set the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number to '''465'''. The Incoming port should change to '''995''' or '''993''' automatically depending on whether you use POP3 or IMAP.
# To save the changes, Click OK, then next and finish in the previous menu.

===Outlook 2011 for Mac===

===Version 8===

Missed backups can happen for several reasons, incuding
* '''Computer being in standby (sleep or hibernation) at the time of the scheduled backup'''<br/>'''Solutions:'''
** Extend your computer's sleep/wake timer to ensure the computer is awake at the correct time
** Choose a different time for the scheduled backups via the Backup Sets => => [Backup Set Name] => Backup Schedule menu of the client, or on https://backup.swcp.com
** Disable sleep timers entirely on the computer (not advisable on computers with battery power, like laptops), or set your power options to disable sleep when the computer is plugged in
** Set a scheduled task to wake the computer at the scheduled backup time
* '''Problem with the BUS Client's scheduler service''' <br/>'''Solutions:'''
** Restarting the computer will usually correct this issue
** If rebooting is not possible/advisable, you can also restart the scheduler service by going (on Windows) with the following steps:
*** Open a "Run" window (Windows key + R), type "services.msc" and click "Run"
*** In the services menu, locate "SWCP BUS Client Services" then right-click and choose "Restart"
* '''The scheduler is not configured to run on the correct system''' <br/>'''Solution:'''
** Open the BUS Client, then go to Backup Sets => [Backup Set Name] => Backup Schedule, enable the schedule with the slider button and click "OK" when prompted to run backups on your new computer.

=====How do I know it's working?=====

The scheduler has a log file that will contain information on whether the scheduler has a heartbeat. If the scheduler is not running, the log file will not have any current information, or may contain errors that will clue us into hte problem. It is located in the bus client's profile folder, which is called .obm on the server version and .acb on the desktop version. Here's how to find it:

On Windows:
* In File Explorer, browse to C:\Users\Your username\.obm or .acb\log\Scheduler, and open the file debug.log. <br/>'''(note that .obm/.acb are hidden folders, so File Explorer will need to have the "View Hidden Files and Folders" checkbox ticked. That is in the View menu tab of File Explorer on Windows 8 and later.)

On MacOS:
*Open Terminal (or your preferred terminal app), then type in the following commands:
cd ~/.acb/log/Scheduler (replace .acb with .obm if you are using the Server version)
tail debug.log (this will show you the last 10 lines of debug.log)

On Linux:
* In a terminal, type in the following
sudo tail /root/.obm/logs/.obm/debug.log

If the scheduler is running properly the last few lines of the log file will look like this, with current timestamps:
===Version 6===
This affects both Mac and Windows clients. Especially after moving to a new computer, and sometimes after upgrading a Mac to Snow Leopard, the SWCP Backup client may fail to run on schedule.

The notes below tell how to inspect the log file on a Mac -- substitute similar for Windows, or skip down to "The Fix" below.

To find out what's going on, first check the scheduler logs. Run the Terminal program.
This will put you in your home directory. From there
cd .obm/log/Scheduler

The log file for today is named debug.log. Yesterday's log is debug.log.1, etc.
tail debug.log
will show you the last ten lines of the log file. The error message of interest will
look like:
Ignore scheduled / server initiated backup on this computer, Macintosh.
Should run on computer named 'Sayuri.local'.
The computer's name in this example is "Sayuri", but for some reason the BUS client
believes it to be named "Macintosh".

===The Fix===
To get the scheduler working again, log into the BUS web interface at https://bus.swcp.com
using your BUS client account name and password. From there select "Backup Set"
from the top right side menu.

Scroll down to the "Backup Schedule" section to this item:
"Run scheduled backup on computers named "
The text box should have the name of your computer. If this doesn't machine the current
name of your computer, edit it to match (in this example "Macintosh").

Scroll down to the "Update" button and click it. That should fix it -- your computer do the right thing at the next scheduled backup time.

* PBL rejection
* SPF rejection
* Port 25 blocked

The basic idea is to set your email program to send with the following configuration:
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP server): mail.swcp.com
* Port and/or protocol: Port 465 with SSL, or port 587 with TLS
* Username and password: the same as you use to retreive your email from SWCP

==Step-by-Step setup for different Mail Clients==
===Thunderbird===
# In the 'Authentication method' pulldown menu, select 'Normal Password'.
# In the 'Connection Security' pulldown menu, select 'SSL/TLS'
# At this point, the "Port" setting should have changed to read 465.
# Click OK, then OK again to exit Account Settings.

===Outlook===
# Make sure the "Secure Password Authentication" setting on this screen is '''OFF'''
# Select the Advanced tab

===Outlook 2011 for Mac===
#Go to the Tools menu and select 'Accounts'
#In the Accounts menu, select the account to be changed
#In the Incoming and Outgoing server sections, check "Use SSL to connect". The Incoming port should change to '''995''' for POP, or '''993''' for IMAP
#If the outgoing port doesn't change automatically, check "Override default port" and set the port to '''465''' for SSL or '''587''' for TLS.
#Click the "More Options" button
#In the "Settings for: mail.swcp.com" window, set 'Authentication' to "Use Incoming Server Info"
# Click OK, then close the Accounts window to finish.

===Mac Mail (OSX 10.11 El Capitan and earlier)===
# Go to the Mail menu and select 'Preferences'
# In the Accounts menu of Preferences, select your SWCP account
# In the 'Account Information' section, click on the pulldown menu next to 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and select 'Edit SMTP Server List'
# In the following menu, click on the outgoing server that's marked as 'In Use By' your account. The server should be 'mail.swcp.com'
# Click on the 'Advanced' section
# Tick the 'Use SSL' checkbox, and set the port to 465.
# Next to 'Authentication', choose 'Password' from the pulldown menu. A username and password field will appear.
# Type your SWCP username and password into the fields
# Click OK, then close the Preferences menu. If you are prompted to do save your changes, click 'Save'

===Mac Mail (macOS 10.12 Sierra and later)===
# Go to the Mail menu and select 'Preferences'
# In the Accounts menu of Preferences, select your SWCP account
# Click the Advanced tab, uncheck the two "Automatically manage connection settings" checkboxes, and enter the following information into incoming AND outgoing server sections:
## Check 'Use TLS/SSL'
## Incoming port: 995 for POP, or 993 for IMAP
## Outgoing port: 465 or 587
## Authentication: Password
## Username and password: your SWCP logon information.
# Close the Preferences menu, clicking "Save Changes" if prompted.

===Apple iOS Mail (iPad, iPhone)===

# The mail account setup wizard will choose SSL by default
# To configure authenticated SMTP, just type your SWCP login info in to the outgoing username
and password fields (they are marked as 'optional' by default)

===Android Mail (called Gmail on later versions)===

# During setup, set SSL/Connection security/Security type (the wording varies) to "SSL, accept all certificates"
# In the outgoing server section, check "require sign-in" to enable authenticated SMTP

===Evolution===
In the section for creating a new email account or editing an existing one:
# On the Receiving Mail page:
#* Set "Use Secure Connection" to '''TLS Encryption'''
#* Set "Authentication Type" to '''Password'''
#* Put a checkmark in the "Remember Password" box.
# On the Sending Mail page:
#* Set "Server Type" to '''SMTP''', set "Server" to '''mail.swcp.com'''
#* Put a checkmark in the "Server Requires Authentication" box.
#* Set "Use Secure Connection" to '''TLS Encryption'''
#* Set "Authentication" to "Login"
#* Set "Username" to your email account username.
#* Check the "Remember Password" box.

===Eudora===
# First exit Eudora.
# Look in the Eudora directory for the folder "Extrastuff".
# In this folder there is a file named "esoteric.epi". Drag this file into the main Eudora directory.
# Restart Eudora then go to the Tools menu, Options, Ports, and change the ports here as needed.
# In the Sending Mail Category make sure "Allow Authentication" is checked
# Also, in the drop down box that says "Secure Sockets when Sending" set it to Required: Alternate Port (465).
This uses the login name for the incoming mail.
These steps are for Windows versions and may not be exact for a Mac.
Missed backups can happen for several reasons, incuding
** Choose a different time for the scheduled backups via the Backup Sets => => [Backup Set Name] => Backup Schedule menu of the client, or on https://backup.swcp.com
** Disable sleep timers entirely on the computer (not advisable on computers with battery power, like laptops), or set your power options to disable sleep when the computer is plugged in
** Set a scheduled task to wake the computer at the scheduled backup time
Missed backups can happen for several reasons, incuding
* Computer being in standby (sleep or hibernation) at the time of the scheduled backup<br/>'''Solutions:'''
** Extend your computer's sleep/wake timer to ensure the computer is awake at the correct time
** Choose a different time for the scheduled backups via the Backup Sets => => [Backup Set Name] => Backup Schedule menu of the client, or on https://backup.swcp.com
** Disable sleep timers entirely on the computer (not advisable on computers with battery power, like laptops), or configure it to disable sleep when the computer is plugged in
** Set a scheduled task to wake the computer at the scheduled backup time
* Problem with the BUS Client's scheduler service <br/>'''Solutions:'''
** Restarting the computer will usually correct this issue
** If rebooting is not possible/advisable, you can also restart the scheduler service by going (on Windows) with the following steps:
*** Open a "Run" window (Windows key + R), type "services.msc" and click "Run"

Nshaw:

* PBL rejection
* SPF rejection
* Port 25 blocked

The basic idea is to set your email program to send with the following configuration:
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP server): mail.swcp.com
* Port and/or protocol: Port 465 with SSL, or port 587 with TLS
* Username and password: the same as you use to retreive your email from SWCP

==Step-by-Step setup for different Mail Clients==
===Thunderbird===
# Go to the Tools menu (or on Linux, the Edit menu) and select Account Settings.
# In the Account Settings window, click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)"
# Select the server 'mail.swcp.com' and click the 'Edit' button
# In the 'Authentication method' pulldown menu, select 'Normal Password'.
# In the 'Connection Security' pulldown menu, select 'SSL/TLS'
# At this point, the "Port" setting should have changed to read 465.
# Click OK, then OK again to exit Account Settings.

===Outlook===
# Make sure the "Secure Password Authentication" setting on this screen is '''OFF'''
# Select the Advanced tab

===Outlook 2011 for Mac===

===Mac Mail (macOS 10.12 Sierra and later)===

===Apple iOS Mail (iPad, iPhone)===

===Evolution===

===Eudora===
# Choose Encryption key and type<br/>
#*# Default: a strong, but highly unmemorable, random 44 character key<br/>
#*# User password: the same password as your BUS user account.<br/>
#* After you click "Next" the dialog box below will appear. #* Whichever encryption option you choose, write down the key in a safe place. '''SWCP cannot retrieve or change the encryption key. If you do not have the key, you cannot restore your data.'''<br/>
# In the Windows User Authentication menu (Windows-only), enter your Windows user information. For most home users, the Domain will be your computer name, and your local Windows username. Those fields will be pre-populated. Just enter your user account's password and click Next. If you are backing up a network share or other resource, and the scheduled backups need to run on another priviledged account, enter the appropriate domain and credentials here. Also note that if you use a Microsoft account as your user account login (an option feature on Windows 8 and later), the username is the email address tied to your Microsoft account, and the password is your full MS account password (not your PIN, if you've set one)<br/>[[File:Bus_wua.jpg|600px]]<br/>

===Find the log directory===

===BUS Client version 8 and later===
* For Desktop BUS plans, we're looking for a folder called .acb. For Server users, it's .obm. Look in the home directory of the person who installed the software. For example, on a Windows system it will be C:\Users\johnsmith (where "johnsmith" is your username)

===BUS Client version 6 and earlier===
* Same as the newer version, but the folder will be .obm regardless of plan.

===Send the logs to SWCP===
Once you find the .obm or .acb directory, there will be a subdirectory called "log". The easiest thing to do is zip that directory into a file. Right-click on the log directory, select "Send To", and then "Compressed (zipped) directory". That should create a file called log.zip in the .obm directory. Email that file to help@swcp.com as an attachment.

==How to back up a Mapped Network Drive with BUS==

The BUS software can back up a mapped network drive on Windows (Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003, and Vista). To make it work, you need to give BUS the credentials needed to map the drive at the time when backups are scheduled. This is required because scheduled backups will always run under the context of Window's "Local System" account (which does not have the privileges required to access network resources) by default.

There are two ways to do this, depending on whether you have a Windows Domain Controller which handles authentication for mapping the drive you need.

==WITH A Windows Domain Controller==
===BUS Client version 8===
* In the BUS software, go to the Backup Sets menu and select your backup set
* In the General section of the Backup Sets menu, enter your Windows domain and login information into the Domain, Username, and Password fields.

===BUS Client version 6 and earlier===
* In the BUS software, select the backup set from the drop down list at the top of the left panel.
* Enter your Windows domain, username and password into the right panel and press [OK].
* Press the [OK] button to save.

==WITHOUT A Domain Controller==
You need to have the backup software run the "net use" command to map the network drive before each backup. For example, if you want to backup \\SERVER\SHARE that is located on another computer in a Windows workgroup, add the following as a [Pre-backup command]:
net use \\SERVER\SHARE [PASSWORD] /USER:[DOMAIN | MACHINE_NAME]\[USERNAME]
Replace [PASSWORD] and [USERNAME] with the password and username required to map this drive. Here is an example from a working system:
net use \\Server1\userfiles blue7225 /USER:ralph
To enter this:
* In the BUS software, select the backup set from the drop down list at the top of the left panel.
* Click [Command Line Tool] on the left panel.
* Under Pre-Backup, enter your "net use" command in the [Command] field. Leave the [Working Directory] field empty.
* Click [Add], then [OK]

#* You can restore the files to their original location, or choose "Alternate location" and click the Browse button to select an different folder to restore to.<br/>
#* To show additional restore parameters, click "Show Advanced Option" (the defaults are ok in most cases)<br/>[[File:Bus restore location adv.jpg|600px]]<br/>
# Select a temp directory:<br/>[[File:Bus_restore_temp.jpg|600px]]<br/>
#* The BUS Client uses a temporary directory to stream and merge incremental backups during the restore. By default it will choose something like C:\Users\your_username\temp. Using the default is generally ok, but if you are restoring any massive individual files (like a 1TB database, for example), be sure that you have enough room on the drive the temporary folder lives on. For example if you have a 1TB database file a possible 500GB worth of incrementals to merge, you'll want at least 1.5GB free.<br/>
