New page

===Can't read attachments sent by Outlook Express in UUENCODE format.===
Categories:

====Question or Symptom====
Many email programs do not understand the UUENCODE format for
attachments. It's an older method of sending attachments which is not
used very much any more. MIME format should be used instead.

====Resolution====
In Outlook Express, go to Tools, Options, Send. Select the "Plain Text
Settings" button in the Mail Sending Format section. There are two
options for encoding attachments, UUENCODE and MIME. Click the MIME
button to select it. If a user has received a uuencoded message they
can't decode, then we can either decode it for them using the unix
"uudecode" command, or give them a Windows program for decoding
uuencoded files. There is one available at
ftp://ftp.swcp.com/pub/pc/win3/wncod266.exe
