You can change your hostname from a terminal window. You'll need to have access to an adminisrator account. Run the following command:
sudo scutil --set HostName newname.local
Example sequence:
Macintosh:~ jai$ hostname Macintosh.local Macintosh:~ jamii$ sudo scutil --set HostName lily.local Password: Macintosh:~ jai$ hostname lily.local
Note: Your prompt won't change until you create a new tab or window.
