SWCP supports several Web Applications using our one-touch installer, available in the SWCP Dashboard for your account. After an app is installed on your site, you may want to customize it. These articles help you do that.

Drupal CMS

  • If you install your own copy of Drupal, it will come with a .htaccess file which contains "+FollowSymLinks". This will cause "403 forbidden" errors on our servers. To fix, change "+FollowSymLinks" to "+SymLinksIfOwnerMatch" in your .htaccess file.
    • If you use the SWCP one-click app installer to install Drupal, this change will be made automatically.
  • File permissions and "pretty" URLs: the default directory permissions we use here are fairly restrictive, for increased security. However, Drupal's pretty URLs feature requires a slightly more permissive setting. If you enable pretty URLs and they don't work, change the main Drupal directory to add world-read access by setting it to mode "755". Or simply contact us and we'll change it for you ASAP.
  • Installing modules: there is a tutorial on doing this here: http://drupal.org/getting-started/install-contrib
    • Here's a condensed version:
      1. Download the module (many modules are available here: http://drupal.org/project/Modules )
      2. Unpack the files, copy them to a subdir of your Drupal directory: sites/all/modules/modname where "modname" is the name of the module.
      3. Run "update.php" to tell Drupal there are new modules. (There's a link to this at Administer -> Site Building -> Module in the Drupal admin interface.)
      4. The module should include a README.TXT or INSTALL.TXT file with special considerations for that module.
