If you have designed a web site using iWeb on your Macintosh, here is how to upload it to the SWCP web server.

The "publish" feature in iWeb requires the Mobile Me service, so to use another web host you need to export the site to a folder, and then upload it with FTP.

Export the site from iWeb

  • Make the site in iWeb.
  • Select File -> Publish To A Folder
    • It will prompt you for a folder name in the Sites folder of your home directory
    • Click New Folder to assign a new name.
  • Some features of iWeb won't work in this method:
    • Hit counter
    • Password protection
    • Comments and attachments

Install FileZilla

Upload your site with FileZilla

  • After you Publish the site to a folder, start FileZilla
  • In the Host field enter ftp.swcp.com
  • Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields, click QuickConnect
  • Under Remote Site it will show the path to your home directory on the server. Click your username and you should see "public_html" underneath. Under there you should see the directory for your web site, say "mysite.com". Double-click it.
  • Under Local Site, navigate to the folder where you published the site with iWeb (e.g. /Users/YourName/Sites/mysite.com). You should see file called index.html here and a folder called Site.
  • Double-click the index.html file to upload it
  • Control-Click the Site folder and select Upload from the menu. That will upload the Site folder and all the files contained within it. (If you have a 2-button mouse, you can right-click to get that menu; if you have a recent macbook, you can do a 2-finger click to get it).
  • Now visit your site URL (e.g. http://mysite.com/ in this example) in your browser to see your site.
