SWCP infrastructure

SWCP operates a network connecting people and their computers, to our login, web, ftp, mail, and storage servers, and to the Internet at large. Redundancy is important in providing a reliable network Our physical facilities include an emergency power generator and multiple UPSes. Our connections to the Internet include carrier diversity and and bandwidth redundancy.

Login Servers

We provide ssh login service on both bsd and linux servers.

Mail Farm

Mail has become one of the most computing resource intensive functions of an ISP. Our email handling facilities have evolved continually. In our current environment we have several groups of machines performing different aspects of this complex job, including mail acceptance and rejection, scanning for viruses, rating for spaminess, and then providing for the different delivery methodologies (POP, IMAP, etc).

Web Farms

We have clusters of machines providing web service. There are several web servers serving up customer web pages, with a load balancer front end to distribute access across the cluster. The web farm also uses application and database servers to offload computing tasks to dedicated servers for extra speed.

Each web server has access to your website's files and if any one of them crashes or is bogged down the other machines are available to take over serving your website, dynamically. Our servers provide a standard LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) environment for hosting your websites.

File Servers

We have several different file server solutions, using ZFS systems which support snapshots and replication accross many terabytes of storage and backups. In addition to our local storage redundancy we have a secure commercial offsite storage repository for storage of periodic encrypted off-site backups.

Redundant Internet Backhauls

We have multiple gigabit connections through a variety of Tier-1 providers. We manage our bandwidth to ensure its availability at all times.

State of the Art Modem Racks

<wink> We still have a few old analog modem lines in use. How long will they last? No telling!
