I've heard there's an email virus I can get without opening the message

Question or Symptom
Is this true? Can I get a virus without opening the message?
Resolution
E-mail viruses travel as executable attachments to messages. You can't
be infected unless you open the attachment. Unfortunately there are
programs like MS Outlook and Outlook Express that automatically open
messages and their attachments. This is very dangerous. Several new
viruses written in visual Basic Scripting language have hit the net.
These viruses have been quite destructive, deleting files and
propagating themselves to all contacts listed in a person's Outlook
contact book. See the URL's listed below for more information.
