Question or Symptom

How to configure the Actiontec DSL router to PROPERLY handle a public subnet. **Note this telnet procedure is not supported by Actiontec and has been found to to work by our internal support folks. Your milage may vary because of differing firmware versions.

Resolution

Telnet in to the router. The default username and password is admin/admin.

Issue the commands at the prompt:

> ip set interface bridge ipaddress <IP ADDRESS>

Once you have done this telnet will kick you out, because this change is real time. You will need to reconfigure your system with a valid ip address and gateway to comunicate with the router again.

Telnet once again into the router at the new IP address. Issue the following commands:

> ip set interface bridge netmask <NETMASK>
> nat disable
> system config save
> system restart

Once rebooted verify the fuctionality of the setup.

Note, The web interface will not reflect the IP information correctly once you make these changes in the telnet interface. If you wish to go back to a non public subnet, choose the option in the web interface under "utilities' to "Restore default configuration" before trying to make change in the web interface. Otherwise they will probably not work.
