Outlook 2007 with Auth SMTP and IMAP SSL

Here is how to configure Microsoft Outlook 2007 to work with SWCP's mail server. This configuration uses authenticated SMTP for outgoing messages (which allows you to send outgoing messages through the SWCP server from outside the SWCP network). This configuration uses IMAP with SSL encryption so that your passwords and the content of your messages are protected when logging in to the server.

  1. Open Outlook 2007.
  2. From the Tools menu select "Account Settings"
  3. Choose "New..."
  4. Choose (Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, HTTP) then click "Next".
  5. Choose "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" (at the bottom of the window). Click "Next". (Leave everything else blank)
  6. Choose "Internet E-mail". Click "Next".
  7. Fill out the following information:
    • Your Name: Enter the name you want recipients to see when they receive your message (e.g. "Bob Smith")
    • E-mail Address: username@swcp.com (Or name@yourdomain.com if you have your own email domain)
    • User Name: username (where "username" is your SWCP login name)
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP): mail.swcp.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.swcp.com
    • User Name: username (where "username" is your SWCP login name)
    • Password: password (where "password" is your SWCP password)
    • Check the box for "Remember my password" if desired
  8. Next select "More Settings", then choose the "Advanced" tab.
    • Change the Incoming Server (IMAP) port to 993.
    • Change "Use the following type of encryption connections" to "SSL".
    • Change Outgoing server (SMTP) port to 465
    • Change "Use the following type of encryption connections" to "SSL".
    • "Root folder path" - this field specifies where your mail will be stored on the server. Leave it blank.
  9. Choose the "Outgoing Server" tab
    • Check the box for "My outgoing server requires authentication"
    • Check the box for "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  10. Click "OK", Click "Next", Click "Finish"

All done!
