A few words on the subject from our software vendor's web site:
Bare-metal restore also requires support from the OS.  It can work with either StorageCraft's ShadowProtect product, or Windows 2008's backup utility, wbadmin.  Using wbadmin works with Windows Vista Business / Ultimate and with Windows Server 2008 Standard / Enterprise / Datacenter. In order to do bare-metal restores with older versions (e.g. Windows 2000, XP, or Server 2003, you need to use the StorageCraft ShadowProtect product.

Bare Metal Restore

Can BUS do a "bare-metal" restore? No and yes. The feature is newly supported in the latest version of the backup software, but SWCP BUS is not running that version yet. Our upgrade is planned for July, 2010, after which the new version will be available.
