File not Found error (Mac client)
1. I'm using the SWCP backup service on a Mac and it's telling me
"File not Found File or directory not Found, (ErrorCode:-43)"
What's going on? How do I find out what file?
There is a log file that the OBM client creates in your home directory. If you are backing up your home directory (alway a good idea!) then it will try to back up a file that it creates temporarily. It was there when it got a directory listing, but was gone before it could be backed up.
The easiest way to fix this problem is to exclude the directory .obm
in your backup client. This is a subdirectory of your home directory. For example if your logname is jay, this directory is /Users/jay/.obm
To find out the name of the file it couldn't find, you'll need to know a little about Unix, the underlying OS that MacOS X is based on.
In Terminal, do "New Shell". You'll be in your home directory now.
cd .obm/log
change to subdirectory .obm, then to subdirectory log.
ls
list files
You should see a directory with a numeric name, like 122310381987
Change to that directory, i.e.
cd 122310381987
ls
Now you'll see log files for each time your backup software has
run. They look like "2008-11-18-01-07-01.log"
To view one you can run the 'more' program, i.e.
more 2008-11-18-01-07-01.log
This will allow you to page through the backup log until you find the missing file error. This log will tell you which file it was.
