Question or Symptom

How you can bring a Actiontec 1520 that appears to be dead back to life.

Resolution

You will need the installation buddy cd that came with the router and a windows machine.

Set your machines TCP/IP properties to refelect the following:

IP Address: 192.168.0.99
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Have your actiontec router pluged in via ethernet and have the AC adapter unplugged.

Open up the installation buddy cd inside windows and open the folder labeled "Support Files" In there you will see a program called "recover.exe". Open this. It will unpack itself and ask you to click "Ok". Proceed. Now when you see a window with the line "Server Ready", hold down and keep holding the reset button on the back of the actiontec and plug the AC adapter in. Do not release the reset button until you see the window display a line that says "Updating Image ...". The program will reimage the firmware, reboot the router and quit. Once done, it should be back to factory defaults and you should be able to configure it.
