Question or Symptom
How do I configure my Actiontec 1520 (the white model) Wireless-Ready DSL Gateway to use a static WAN IP or public subnet?
Resolution
Static WAN IP
There is no difference in the configuration of the Actiontec for a dynamic or static WAN IP. The assigning of the static IP takes place upon login. Configure using the SWCP Knowledge Base article 175, Configuring the Actiontec Wireless-Ready DSL Gateway (ethernet and NAT).
Public Subnet
If you have a public subnet (2 or more public IP's), there are a few differences.
First, complete the instructions in the SWCP Knowledge Base article 175, Configuring the Actiontec Wireless-Ready DSL Gateway (ethernet and NAT).
Next, open your web browser of choice, and surf to http://192.168.0.1. This will take you to the web interface for configuring the router. Click "Setup/Configuration."
There will be sidebar on the left. Click "Advanced Setup."
Click the "Begin Advanced Setup" button.
Again,in the left-hand sidebar, click "LAN IP Address."
Enter the first IP from your public subnet.
Click "Next" through the next several screens unti you reach the one with the heading "NAT."
Click the "Off" radio button.
Click "Next" until you reach the screen with the heading "Save and Restart."
Click the button "Save and Restart."
You are done.
