Outlook 2003 with Auth SMTP and IMAP SSL

Here is how to configure Microsoft Outlook 2003 to work with SWCP's mail server. This configuration uses authenticated SMTP for outgoing messages (which allows you to send outgoing messages through the SWCP server from outside the SWCP network). This configuration uses IMAP with SSL encryption so that your passwords and the content of your messages are protected when logging in to the server.

  1. Open Outlook 2003.
  2. From the Tools menu select "E-mail Accounts..."
  3. Select the radio button next to "Add a new e-mail account" and click "Next".
  4. In the next window select IMAP as the type of server the e-mail account will work with. Enter the following information:
    • Your Name: Enter the name you want recipients to see when they receive your message (e.g. "Bob Smith")
    • E-mail Address: username@swcp.com (Or name@yourdomain.com if you have your own email domain)
    • User Name: username (where "username" is your SWCP login name)
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP): mail.swcp.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.swcp.com
  5. Next select "More Settings...". A new window called Internet E-mail Settings opens.
  6. Select the "Outgoing Server" tab.
    • Check the box for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
    • Check the box for "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  7. Select the Advanced tab. Make the following changes:
    • Under Incoming server (IMAP) check the box for "This server requires an encrypted connections (SSL)"
    • Set the Incoming (IMAP) PORT number to 993
    • Under Outgoing server (SMTP) check the box for "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)"
    • Set the Outgoing server(SMTP) PORT number to 465
    • "Root folder path" - this field specifies where your mail will be stored on the server. Leave it blank.

All done!
