Managing Members
These are all functions that the list Admin must do. We'll start from the General Options Page, which is what you see when you first login as list Admin.
- To see the list of subscribed members - Choose Member Management, this will bring you to the Membership List page. If you only have a few members they will all be listed in the table below. If you have many members there will be a key above the table with single letters of the alphabet. Each letter will bring up a new table with email addresses that begin with that letter.
- To add a member/members - From Member Management, select Mass Subscription. If you are importing your initial set of email addresses, pay attention to whether you wish to send them a 'Welcome' message or not. It's often best to set "Send welcome messages to new subscribees?" to no, unless your list members are expecting a welcome message to let them know the list is now live. In the first textarea on this page enter email addresses ONLY, one address per line to construct your mailing list. In second textarea you an craft a personal welcome message if you're sending one.
- To delete a member - From the appropriate page of the Member List select the "unsub" checkbox. You can unsubscribe as many members as you'd like at one time, provided they appear on the same Member List page.
- If you'd like to get a text list of all members on your mailing list you can send a message to <list>-request@mailman.swcp.com with the message:
who <admin-password>
Note: you must be a list admin to receive this list.
Setting up who can Post to the list
- If a list member is moderated this means his/her posts are held for moderation. You can tell if a member is moderated from the Membership List. If the checkbox under the Mod label is checked then that member is moderated. To allow members to post without moderation, uncheck this box, and press the Submit Your Changes button.
- If you a non-member you needs to be able to post to the list you'll set this up in the Privacy Options section under Sender Filters. There is a text box next to the List of non-member addresses whose postings should be automatically accepted. option. Add email addresses, one per line, of the non-members whose posts should be immediately accepted. If you want a non-member to be able to post ONLY after moderation, add these email addresses to the box labelled List of non-member addresses whose postings will be immediately held for moderation.
- How new members are treated: If you have an Announce Only list you'll want any new member to be added as moderated. This is set up in Privacy Options, Sender Filters. Set the option By default, should new list member postings be moderated? to Yes. This can also be used to moderate a new list member, then after they're proved to be a good citizen the moderation flag can be turned off from them. (See Member List).
Moderating the List
If you login at the Admin URL with the Moderator password you will be immediately taken to the moderation area. If you login as an Admin, you can find the moderation area under Tend to Pending Moderator Requests. There you'll find all posts held for moderation. You can accept, reject, or discard. Defer just keeps the message held for moderation. The difference between reject and discard is that reject will send a rejection message to the sender, discard will not.
