Thunderbird on Fedora 20 Linux

This information kindly submitted by one of our users.

This applies specifically to Thunderbird on a Fedora 20 system, but should be applicable to most Linux desktop environments.

  1. Start Thunderbird and tell it to add a new account
    • If you select POP3, it should default to SSL/TLS on port 995 with password authentication.
    • If you select IMAP it should default to SSL/TLS on port 993 with password authentication.
  2. Outgoing mail should work with default settings, no special set-up needed.

The Thunderbird default account settings for POP leave the mail on the server, and some users may want to reset that option to load the mail to their home machine and remove from the server. With IMAP, all mail is left on the server (best choice if you use multiple devices to access your mail).

All done!
