Question or Symptom

iPass works in the states, but in some countries I have problems staying connected.

Resolution

Some countries use something called tax impulsing to aid with billing. This can cause drops and slow connections. Below is an article from Tele Adapt regarding this problem and a device that will help.

Tax Impulsing in European Countries

Local telephone exchanges in many European countries use tax impulsing as a way to measure the length of each call for billing purposes. Tax impulsing (also know as Tax Metering) manifests itself as a regular series of high-frequency pulses that may or may not be heard throughout your phone call.

To the user placing a voice call, these beeps present no problem. However, to your modem, they can be devasting, causing log-in errors, low-speed connections, and dropped lines.

In countries where tax impulsing is common, a special tax impulsing filter is built into the modem's circuitry. Modems from the us and elsewhere (unless they cary multiple country approval) are susceptible to tax impulsing and should be used in conjuction with the TeleAdapt TeleFilter.

TeleAdapt TeleFilter The TeleFilter is designed to eliminate tax impulsing on all foreign phone lines, providing you with a high-speed, error-free connection at all times.

Countries where tax impulsing is used, include: Austria, Belgium, Czech/Slovak Republics, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.
