Question or Symptom

I would rather filter my email on my outlook client instead of your mailserver.

Resolution

Outlook 2000 contains some nice features for filtering email. The X-Spam-Level header contains one star '*' for each hit point that Spamassassin scores. We'll want to create a rule that filters based on the hits level that you would like to filter at. For example if you want to block messages that score 6 and above you would do the following.

  1. Click on tools
  2. Click on Rules Wizard
  3. Click New
  4. Click 'Start from a blank rule'
  5. Select 'Check messages when they arrive' the press Next
  6. Check the 'with specific words in the message header'
  7. Click the link 'specific words' in the Rule description below
  8. In the dialog box type X-Spam-Level: ****** then press Next
  9. Place a check in the 'move it to the specified folder' option
  10. Click the 'specified' link in the Rule description below
  11. Select a folder (or create a new one to deliver your spam to)
  12. Press finish

You should now be filtering email that scores 6 spam hit points or greater. To change this level simply edit the rule you just made and change the number of stars '*' in the rule definition.
