Question or Symptom

You poked around the BroadMax web config screens and now it is routing as well as a baked cod.

Resolution

IMPORTANT NOTE Please make sure you doesn't have any wacky port forwarding or ip space issues before starting this process.

The Broadmax router has both a web based GUI and a telnet interface. Both can be used to configure the device. Here is how to configure the device thru the web interface from factory defaults. NOTE: (If the router is not responding and all the lights are in their proper state you can reset all the settings to factory default by pressing a paper clip into the little hole on the bottom of the BroadMax three times).

  1. Configure your ethernet device to have an ip address on the same subnet as
the Broadmax, by default the Broadmax's ethernet ip address is
     192.168.0.1.
  2. Fire up a web browser and point it to 192.168.0.1
  3. You will be prompted for a username and password use broadmax/broadmax
  4. Click the Home tab -> Quick Configuration
  5. Change Encapsulation to PPPoA VC-Mux
  6. Change VCI from 35 to 32
  7. Change Bridge to disable
  8. Change Default Route to Enable
  9. Enter the username and password
 10. Enter the DNS nameserver ips and click the Submit button
 11. Click on the Bridging Tab and set all the options to disable and click the
     Submit button
 12. Click on the Admin tab
 13. Click on the Commit and Reboot link
 14. Click the Commit button and wait for the page to refresh
 15. Click on the Reboot button and wait for the page to refresh and all the
     lights to become steady
 16. The customer will now be able to surf web.

If the customer wants the BroadMax to function as a DHCP server do the following.

  1. Click on the LAN tab
  2. Click on the DHCP Mode Link
  3. Switch the DHCP Mode to Server and click submit
  4. Click on the DHCP Server Link
  5. This screen gives you a spot to enter the DHCP address range.
If this is configured but not working properly you can remove each of the
non-functioning address ranges one at a time by clicking the trash can icon.
  6. Click the Add button
  7. Enter the Start Ip Address (example 192.168.0.2)
  8. Enter the End Ip Address (example 192.168.0.100)
  9. Enter the NetMask (example 255.255.255.0)
 10. Enter the Domain (example swcp.com)
 11. Enter the Gateway Address (example 192.168.0.1)
 12. Enter the DNS ips
 13. Click the Submit button
 14. Click the Admin tab click commit and click reboot.

That should be it the broadmax should now be configured. You can have the customer verify that things seem to be working by clicking on the Home tab. There should now be an entry to ppp-0 with an ip address and the status light should be green.

Note: The BroadMax is the best CPE I have ever worked with and very configurable. It seems to be well worth the $100.
