Question or Symptom

This article describes how to filter incoming mail messages in Outlook Express version 4.5 on the Macintosh.


Resolution

Start Outlook Express, then go to the Tools menu and select Mail Rules. In the Rules window click on New Rule.

Enter a comment in the Rule Name field (e.g. "Block mail from Bob")

Check the "Apply to Incoming" box.

Under "Criteria" select "From" in the pull-down menu.

Select "Contains" in the next pull-down menu.

Type the email address you want to block (e.g. "bob@swcp.com")

Under "Actions" select "Move Message" in the "Action 1" pull-down.

In the new pull-down meu that appears to the right of this, select "Deleted Messages" (or another folder of your choosing).

Click OK.

Now when any message comes in from the address bob@swcp.com, it will automatically be dropped in the Deleted Messages folder.
