BUS Error Messages

There are many things that can cause a backup to fail on any given night. Here are some commonly encountered aerror messages and what they mean.

Backup interrupted by backup scheduler

This means the scheduler stopped the backup because it had gone on beyond a time limit. The schedule for this backup set probably has a time limit on it so that backups will not continue into work hours. What to do about it?

  • If it happens once in a while, and many files got backed up in that session, then don't worry about it. Probably you just had a lot of new files added to the system. The next backup will continue where it left off and back up remaining files.
  • If it's happening every night and doesn't seem to be backing up any (or many) files, then there is probably a single enormous file that can't get backed up before the timeout. One option is to increase (or remove) the timeout. Another is to start a backup while you are watching to see what file it is getting stuck on. Then decide if that file needs to be backed up and make allowances as appropriate (relax timeout temporarily, or consider a BUS Seed Load).
