Question or Symptom

User wants to allow Netmeeting connections to a server in their network, and they have NEN DSL with an Efficient router and are using Network Address Translation.

Resolution

More and more people are using video conferencing software. Netmeeting is one of the most common applications. A protocol used with most of these video conferencing applications is H323. It does not play well with NAT.

The Efficient router has the ability to proxy H323, making Netmeeting possible through NAT. For this to work, the router must have at least the 5.1 version of the firmware.

The commands are:

 system addserver <destination IP> tcp h323
 save
 system addserver <destination IP> tcp 1501
 save all
 sync

(A reboot may, or may not be required).

The destination IP is the private IP address of the internal server.
