Error 691 under XP

Question or Symptom

Client calls to report getting Error 691 when attempting to use DUN under XP, usually right after an "upgrade".

Resolution

    Have the client check the "Options" tab in the "Properties" of the
    connectoid. Have the client uncheck "Include Windows logon domain" on
    this tab. Voila! If this doesn't work, have the client re-open the
    connectoid properties, and go to the "Security" tab, and change whatever
    appears in the "Validate my identity as follows" box to "Allow unsecured
    password". This is rarer, as "Allow unsecured password" is the default
    setting, but it appears that XP sets "Include Windows logon domain"
    checked by default.
