Troubleshooting Mac OS X and the GT701-wg (black/gray) dsl router.

Question or Symptom

I have a Macintosh running MacOS X and a new Actiontec GT701-wg (the black/gray one). I'm having trouble configuring my Actiontec Router from a Mac for my Qwest DSL service. Help!

Resolution

From a conference call with Qwest.

"With the new, black, wireless-enabled Actiontecs, if you attempt to configure them using an OSX machine whose hostname is longer than 10 characters or contains special characters, the Actiontec will not be configured properly and thus not work.

Workaround for now is to change the hostname to something shorter. In theory Actiontec will release a firmware upgrade that fixes the bug."
