Dialup Networking refuses to remember passwords

Question or Symptom
DUN (dialup networking) in Windows95/98 may not be able to remember passwords, or the 'save password' check-box is permanently greyed out.
Resolution
Common solutions to this problem are:
- Install 'Client for Microsoft Networks' in your Network control panel, then
reboot the computer.
- Make sure you log into Windows, instead of hitting 'Cancel' when the Windows
logon appears.
