Question or Symptom

How do I use multiple email accounts with Eudora on Windows 95?

Resolution

NOTE: most modern versions of Eudora and Netscape support multiple users natively. The following only applies to older versions of Eudora. You can download the latest versions of Eudora and Netscape from www.eudora.com and www.netscape.com, respectively.

How to set up Eudora to work with two peoples' mailboxes on one Windows 95 PC.

The following assumes that you already have Eudora installed and working for a single user. This will tell you how to set it up for an additional user. This example assumes that eudora is installed on drive C: in the directory C:\internet\eudora. If you use a different drive or directory, be sure to substitute the correct locations when performing the steps below.

1. Use the Windows Explorer to copy your Eudora directory:

   A. Start Windows Explorer
   B. Double-click the Internet directory to open it.
   C. Single click the Eudora folder so that it is selected.
   D. Pull down the "Edit" menu, select the "Copy" option.
   E. Single click the Internet folder icon so that it is selected
      instead of Eudora.
   F. Pull down the "Edit" menu, select the "Paste" option. This will create
a new copy of the Eudora folder called "Copy of EUDORA".
   G. Single click the Copy of EUDORA folder. Pull down the "File" menu
and select "Rename". Give the folder a new name (for example, if
the second eudora setup is for a user named bob, you could call it
"Eudora (Bob)". You might want to rename your original Eudora folder
to include the name of the user as well.

2. Now that a copy has been made, we need to add it to your Start menu:

   A. Select Start, then Settings, then Taskbar.
   B. Click the "Start Menu Programs" tab.
   C. Click the Add button.
   D. Click Browse.
   E. Double-click Internet. Then double-click the new directory which you
created above (using the name you gave it in step 1G).
   F. Double-click the Weudora.exe file.
   G. You'll then be asked to select a folder for the shortcut. Double-click
      the Internet folder.
   H. Then it'll ask you for a title. Give it the same name you gave the
      directory earlier (e.g. "Eudora (Bob)").

3. Now configure the new eudora setup for the other person. Run the
new Eudora by selecting it from the Start menu. Then pull down
the Special menu and select Configuration. It will have your old
settings there, which you can modify for the new person.
