Can't read attachments sent by Outlook Express in UUENCODE format.

Question or Symptom

Many email programs do not understand the UUENCODE format for attachments. It's an older method of sending attachments which is not used very much any more. MIME format should be used instead.


Resolution

    In Outlook Express, go to Tools, Options, Send. Select the "Plain Text
    Settings" button in the Mail Sending Format section. There are two
    options for encoding attachments, UUENCODE and MIME. Click the MIME
    button to select it. If a user has received a uuencoded message they
    can't decode, then we can either decode it for them using the unix
    "uudecode" command, or give them a Windows program for decoding
    uuencoded files. There is one available at
