How do you change the internal IP address on the Flowpoint router?
Article:86 Created:2001-01-31 18:13:26 Categories: routing DSL
Question or Symptom
The Flowpoint routers that have been going out lately (10/4/00) have an internal ip address of 192.168.254.1, however customers might use 192.168.0 as their network instead with a subnet of 255.255.255.0. They might also use another set of private ips like the 10.0.0. If that is so you want to change the internal ip address.
Resolution
The fix for that is to log in to the router. Telnet to the external IP address of the router. The password initially on the router is 'admin'. You may want to change that.
Once you are logged in to the router then what you want to do is to change the internal IP address by doing the following:
eth ip addr 'ipaddr' 'ipnetmask'
For example:
eth ip addr 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
Once you have typed that in you want to check to see if it has been changed. You do that by typeing:
eth list
which will give you a list of ethernet settings. The line we are interested in is:
IP address/subnet mask............... 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0
That will show you if you have changed this successfully. At that point do the following:
save
reboot
That will save the setting and restart the router.
