SWCP supports several Web Applications using our one-touch installer, available in the SWCP Dashboard for your account. After an app is installed on your site, you may want to customize it. These articles help you do that.

  • If you install your own copy of Drupal, it will come with a .htaccess file which contains "+FollowSymLinks". This will cause "403 forbidden" errors on our servers. To fix, change "+FollowSymLinks" to "+SymLinksIfOwnerMatch" in your .htaccess file.
    • If you use the SWCP one-click app installer to install Drupal, this change will be made automatically.
  • File permissions and "pretty" URLs: the default directory permissions we use here are fairly restrictive, for increased security. However, Drupal's pretty URLs feature requires a slightly more permissive setting. If you enable pretty URLs and they don't work, change the main Drupal directory to add world-read access by setting it to mode "755". Or simply contact us and we'll change it for you ASAP.
  • Installing modules: there is a tutorial on doing this here: http://drupal.org/getting-started/install-contrib
    • Here's a condensed version:
      1. Download the module (many modules are available here: http://drupal.org/project/Modules )
      2. Unpack the files, copy them to a subdir of your Drupal directory: sites/all/modules/modname where "modname" is the name of the module.
      3. Run "update.php" to tell Drupal there are new modules. (There's a link to this at Administer -> Site Building -> Module in the Drupal admin interface.)
      4. The module should include a README.TXT or INSTALL.TXT file with special considerations for that module.
