Using Multiple Identities in iPhone Mail

If you have your own domain, and have multiple domain aliases pointing to a single email account, you may want to use different "From" addresses on your email replies, depending on who the message was sent to. For example, say that you have a domain mycompany.com, and addresses bob@mycompany.com, sales@mycompany.com, and info@mycompany.com. Here's how you can get iPhone email to let you specify which address to use.
- Go into Settings, Mail
- Select the email account to modify
- The Address field determines the sender address on your outgoing emails. Normally you just have one address there, say bob@mycompany.com. We want to add all 3 of the addresses listed above, separated by commas.
- Problem: the soft keyboard in this field does NOT allow the comma character! To get around this, use cut-and-paste. Type some text with a comma in the "Name" field right above the Address field. Then cut that text from that field, and paste it into the Address field. Now edit the address field appropriately. In our example the end result should look like this:
- Address bob@mycompany.com,sales@mycompany.com,info@mycompany.com,
- Now when you send a message from this account, the sender address will default to the first address in the list (bob@...). If you tap the "From" field on the outgoing message, you'll get a selector to let you choose among all the sender addresses you have defined.
